Skin hypersensitivity is a frequent problem, yet many people still don’t know how to deal with it. Choosing the right products and skin care regimen is the key if you want to control sensitive skin. What to pick when faced with an endless selection of products for sensitive skin?

Did you know that although sensitive skin may be hereditary, it is us and the environment we live in that greatly influence it? Sensitive skin reacts to all sorts of factors, such as cold, heat, temperature changes, wind, sun as well as cigarette smoke, stress and inadequate cosmetic products. Symptoms of sensitivity include stinging, burning, itching and redness. Temporarily, sensitivity may affect people with all skin types, including oily and acne-prone skin.

How skin hypersensitivity develops is a very complex process and one that is still not fully known. One of the main reasons is malfunctioning of the skin barrier which protects us from external factors. Weaker skin defence predisposes skin penetration by allergens, which causes irritation and allergic reactions, such as redness or itchiness.

It is extremely important for people with sensitive skin to look after it using fragrance- and dye-free cosmetics whose safety and effectiveness were tested on people with allergy tendencies. It is recommended to use one line of products for comprehensive skin care.

The most important thing for sensitive skin is to restore and maintain the protective barrier of the epidermis in order to enhance the protection of your skin against irritants. That’s why skin products should contain active ingredients which repair the skin’s damaged hydrolipidic film, such as linseed extract, Shea butter, olive wax or vegetable oils. Moisturizing components, such as polysaccharides derived from plants, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, are also beneficial for sensitive skin. Antioxidants, like vitamin E, and minerals improve the skin’s natural barrier and protection from environmental factors. You should also remember about protecting your skin against harmful UV radiation and the best way to do it is by using products with mineral UV filters. Good products for sensitive skin should also contain components with soothing properties: allantoin and D-panthenol.

Along with using protective and moisturizing creams and lotions you should also pay special attention to proper skin cleansing. Gentle products free of detergents, fragrances, allergens or colour additives are your allies. Take special care when cleansing your face and eye area. Our recommendation is to use milks or creamy products which don’t require rinsing.
